Midtown Subway
"Midtown Subway" by artist and illustrator Tony Calandra features a detailed rendering of NYC and surrounding area, originally illustrated in oil pastel. This variant of the original work titled "Midtown", features the overlaid NYC subway transit system map.
From the Artist:
"This is a second version of Midtown created as an afterthought to the initial painting. I ride the subway every morning and see the Arts For Transit illustrations posted inside all the subway cars by the MTA. My thought was to create an alternate version of Midtown to incorporate the MTA transit system, and then submit it to the public works project. While the spokeswoman for the Arts For Transit Public Works project really liked my piece, she informed me that unfortunately they would not be able to use it since I was never officially commissioned by the MTA to create the piece. It has however become one of the strongest pieces in my portfolio, showing a cohesive merging of traditional and digital media with some New York City street flair."
