34th & 5th
"34th & 5th" by artist and illustrator Tony Calandra features a detailed interpretation of the Empire State building in NYC and surrounding area originally illustrated in oil pastel.
From the Artist:
"This painting was created in the summer of 2010 in New York City. I had been living in the city for 5 years by then, and had been looking to create a piece that reflected some of the enormity and brilliance of New York. I chose oil pastels on a whim, being a material I hadn't touched in over 10 years. The only surface I had readily available was an long and narrow piece of chipboard, which ideally lent itself to a painting of the Empire State Building. The final painting (34th & 5th) was so satisfying and inspiring to me that it spawned not only a series of successful cityscape paintings, but a complete new direction of my illustration work, which is now done primarily in oil pastels."
